A rebellious female agent finds herself in the middle of a terrifying evolutionary crisis in this action-packed novel em>Impregnation of Evil by author Jonas Hansen.
Joanna Skylar is as tough as they come; shrewd, wise-cracking, and never afraid to pull the trigger. An agent for hire, she spends her days going out on daring missions to earn a living, and they often involve thrilling danger and intrigue. Although she’s tired of her nagging boss, for the most part the adrenaline junkie in her enjoys the work, not to mention she’s darn good at it. But things are changing quickly in her technologically advanced world, and not all the changes are for the better. When evidence surfaces of a miraculous ability that will make men obsolete, Joanna is caught in the middle of widespread panic. As her own romantic passions start to take shape, she must prepare herself to face an alien race that will soon give her answers to some of her most burning questions.
If you’re looking for a dynamic plot full of head-spinning adventure, then look no further. The action scenes almost never let up in this story, and there are intriguing elements of espionage and conspiracy that enhance the narrative. However, many of the action scenes are violent and graphic, so if that’s your cup of tea, you won’t want to miss this one! Because the story takes place in the future after several wars, there is a somewhat grim mood that suits the confrontation scenes very well. Fans of apocalyptic fiction will also enjoy the permeating melancholy and existentialism that’s present in the dialogue and character interactions. In particular, the character of Joanna is fascinating for many reasons, not least of which is because of her apathy toward her job and fellow human beings. She does what she’s told, despite any internal doubts, and cashes in her paycheck.
The dialogue is snappy and sarcastic; just the kind of talk you’d expect from a character like Joanna. While she frequently criticizes those around her, there are several moments of hilarious contempt that perfectly fit the situation: ““Now good luck Joanna,” My boss says as he fades away into the audio of my ear that he has been doing like a jealous boyfriend for nearly an eternity. Throughout the story, we are witnessing events from exclusively her point of view. Readers are given intimate access to her innermost thoughts and insecurities, helping to make her feel more authentic. At times, the narrative reads like a comic book with emphasis on sounds and movement, but this serves to make the reading experience all the more amusing.
