One of the toughest things for both students and adults to sometimes get a firm grasp on in life is their personal finances. Whether due to external factors such as worldwide economic crisis, or the loss of a job due to outside forces, or personal factors such as mismanagement or a lack of understanding, having knowledge of how one’s finances work is an essential tool to life. As Andy Williams once said, “We teach about how-to drive-in school, but not how to manage finances.”
In author Lloyd Hulcolm’s book $10 Save Me, the author explores a new path and guide on how to manage one’s personal finances, in particular how to save money in general. Through a simple yet powerful guide, the author outlines how to begin saving for various events in one’s life through setting a specific daily goal of savings, be it $10, $1, $100 or whatever the reader has available, and outlines how this simple step can lead to a better financial situation overall.
The author did a brilliant job of conveying complex systems and practices in as simple and elegant a way as possible. The book delves into the aspects of daily finances everyday people must contend with, making this a much more accessible read than more complex and corporate specific financial situations other books have gone into greater detail. The book itself was short yet did a great job of packing as much information and experience into the read without it feeling forced or lacking, and made for an engaging experience for the reader.
This would be the absolute perfect read for those who enjoy non-fiction books, especially those who enjoy non-fiction reads about business and finances, and in particular personal finances. As someone with a complete lack of knowledge of finances as a whole aside from the basics, it was great to read something which allowed everyday people without advanced knowledge to access the systems the author employed to help start a system of savings that could help out in the future.
Moving, educational, and informative, author Lloyd Hulcolm’s $10 Save Me is a must-read book about finances. The book flows smoothly and does a great job of not only showing the reader the author’s system of savings, but actively encourages the reader to participate in this program and see if they can also save their finances in this manner, making the reader an active participant in the process.
