The 7th Tarot Card by Valerie Clay is a delightful, quick read that takes readers on an unexpected journey.  From the novel’s first pages, readers are drawn in by the personality of Victoria “Vic” Morgan. Vic is a self-proclaimed “woman of a certain age” and a “seeker.”  She is the kind of woman who’s constantly working towards self-improvement whether it is physical, spiritual, or financial.  There’s something adventurous about her spirit and natural curiosity that leads her down interesting paths.  In the novel, we see her flit from one experience to the next: from bad dates to an impromptu trip to Las Vegas to a potentially deadly encounter.

It sounds like a lot of plotlines for one character to deal with in such a relatively short novel, but the way each situation presents itself seems organic to the story and, more importantly, to the character.  The reader gets a sense this is how Vic lives her life—getting involved in one project after the next.  She’s the kind of woman who truly lives life with no regrets and isn’t afraid to go after her passions.  She’s the type of woman that can’t sit still and readers will come to love her for it.

That’s not to say the book is devoid of anything serious.  Vic reads as a fun-loving woman but it doesn’t stop her from getting serious when a friend needs her help to catch a potentially philandering husband.  Clay did a very good job in creating a core group of girlfriends for Vic.  Their history goes back to their days as sorority sisters and it’s clear that their love and affection for one another runs deep.  It’s nice to read a novel where the woman characters support one another rather than tear each other apart.

Despite such a busy schedule, Vic does find the time to squeeze a little bit of romance in her life with her mysterious neighbor, Judah.  From the get-go, his character oozes a charm that’s a mix of good guy and rough around the edges, which is hard for Vic to ignore.  Readers will be just as intrigued as she is as she tries to figure out his secret.  Their romance is brief but passionate, leaving the reader wanting more.  This book sets itself up for a series that readers will be sure to gobble up!  It’s a great book for anyone looking for something quick, fun, and entertaining!
