Having grieved for the loss of a child, poet and author Stephen Zuckerman has been transcending into spiritual prayer and actualizations bringing meditation into vivid forms of astounding imagery within his mind. Channeling sadness into love opened his awareness to the beauty of the miracles which surround us; as he brings his observations and cognitive awareness to others through his poetry in his book titled An Angel’s Memorial Guide.
It is a tough lesson to learn – the loss of a child. As Zuckerman states, “You never get over it.” Yet it opened a door for him to squelch the noise and bustle of everyday life as he would place himself in peaceful meditation. Often with the sensory aid of fragrances such as Frankincense and Myrrh, he would attempt to travel transcendentally into the world beyond our physical limitations and explore the realm of the order of the Universe within the house of God.
An Angel’s Memorial Guide seesaws between poetry on beautiful inspirational themes and the author’s comments discussing how and what the preceding poem meant to him. I found this dichotomy within the book to be refreshing, allowing an insight into the emotions which lie beneath the surface of words. Yes, as a priest or preacher in church would comment on Biblical writings or prayers, Zuckerman brings to readers his personal insights on the various ways to channel grief into comfort. The final segment of the book quotes Psalms. In doing so, it makes for a sharing of his favorite passages from the Bible. Easily enjoyed by those of us with faith, his love for these excerpts is obvious and one can see how important his faith is in his healing.
An Angel’s Memorial Guide is indeed a work of wordsmithing art. Tender, soft and spiritual in composition, the collection of poetry and revelations come in a form of a gift to those who open the cover or bring this book to light on their electronic device. He talks about the lemon tree as being a symbol of diversity of sensations, something I found quite perceptive. I especially enjoyed the dream sequence written in the onset of the book. The reader can easily visualize with his beautiful descriptions the joys of reconnecting with ones lost as I felt as if I too traveled into the clouds of Heaven for a few moments.
A book combining ageless prayers with contemporary interpretations, along with a healthy dose of guidance for healing and moving on after a loss of a loved one, An Angel’s Memorial Guide will do just that – guide you and your angels into a memorial together. A perfect gift idea primarily to those who need to get over a major loss in their life, or a gift to yourself if it is you which has lost a loved one.
