First and foremost, it should be noted that author Jon H. Robertson has outdone himself by crafting a light and easy-to-digest read with The Spirit Within by effectively dispelling a number of misconceptions and spiritual traps regarding how Christianity is (sadly) often presented and perceived. Robertson redirects the reader towards his well- researched dissection of how to let spiritually get the most from God’s word directly from the Holy Bible.
The pacing of each chapter is quick and efficient, while gently and constructively setting the record straight about a number of common misunderstandings of the Christian faith. Included in these are the facts that His salvation was intended for people living in all corners of the world, why Christians need to trade their “crippling guilt” for a truly joyful life, and the importance of attaining the peace that comes with self-control.
The most appealing aspect of The Spirit Within is how the book reads like a streamlined “Christianity FAQ” as opposed to a series of lengthy, bogged-down sermons. Because it is laser-focused on delivering faith-based facts as opposed to padding these essentials with useless fluff, it was far easier to compartmentalize its core lessons and effortlessly share its essential findings. Many seeking clarity of thought would greatly benefit from reading a concise and well-researched message regarding faith. You’d be hard- pressed to find an author who has a greater gift for plainly laying out how humanity can immediately benefit from a fuller life through God’s love.
I would certainly recommend this book for lifelong Christians, as well as those looking in from the outside and are actively curious and open-minded about joining the Christian faith. Particularly due to how the author did a commendable job of pushing aside well- intentioned religious doctrines that have tainted how countless believers have understood God’s true intent. He shines a brilliant and crystal-clear spotlight directly on the unquestionable meaning behind His word. There’s no spin here, just simple and easy-to-digest explanations which will have lasting impacts on the reader– especially those chapters that explicitly explain how God’s gifts to His followers are multifold. He includes not only salvation upon death, but the gift of a greater life here on Earth.
For readers who have walked hand-in-hand with Jesus for their entire life, The Spirit Within will serve all as a gentle reminder how going back to study the fundamentals can only strengthen their understanding of faith.
