Former President Richard Nixon once said, “If you take no risks, you will suffer no defeats. But if you take no risks, you win no victories.” In author Giovanni Burrascano’s book titled Our Emerging World: Politics, Economics, Culture, Environment and the New Renaissance is an in-depth essay which gives readers an easy to understand and quick to read study of how historical events, economic changes and growing technology throughout the last century has created the world as we know it today, and how new emerging economic markets are leading to a new renaissance of sorts.
In the book, the author showcases several events and innovations that created the world as we know it, both politically and economically. From Richard Nixon’s foreign affairs trip to China during his presidency to the Industrial Revolution influencing the advancement of technology in our society, creating an economy that depends on aggressive and competitiveness and the individual rather than the community, and so much more, this economic book explores the evolving world as a whole and presents clear cut evidence of how we have arrived at the point that we are as of now.
This is a well-researched and matter of factually written book. The book does a masterful job of outlining clearly the last century of innovations that have evolved our society and world as a whole. The sheer amount of detail the author put into the Our Emerging World in just a short read (a little over 150 pages), showcases a clear and precision delivery of the information to readers in an easy to understand way.
This is the perfect read for anyone who enjoys economics, history and politics, and the way all of those factors impact the world around you. As a fan of history personally, I found myself drawn to how certain events affected the state of my world today, and appreciated other historical figures and events making their way into the argument, as with the mention of Ancient Greece and the Athenian leader Pericles and his contribution to Athen’s prosperity.
This is a must read for anyone who is looking to study how the world got to the state it’s in today, or is interested in seeing the path we are about to enter into as a result. While a short read to be sure, the book cuts through perfectly with easy to understand arguments backed by sound examples and evidence to support these viewpoints.
