The Solution?: Daniel 11:20-45 – A Historical Interpretation is a breakdown of some verses in the book of Daniel. Author Robert Knutson clearly expounded 25 verses; Daniel 11:20-45, analyzing and giving as much information as he could on each verse.

Verse 20 says ‘And in his estate shall stand up a raiser of taxes in the glory of the kingdom; but within a few days, he shall be destroyed neither in anger nor in battle.’ Robert Knutson spells out every single word in that verse to enable the reader to deeply understand what the words mean. To put this into perspective, the author highlighted ‘And in his estate’, and explained that it refers to the estate of the late Roman Republic (168–30BC), ‘shall stand up’ to mean the beginning of the early Roman Empire (30 BC– AD 14), ‘a raiser of taxes’ to mean Caesar Augustus, and so forth.

The author wrote so well that even young readers can comprehend the context of his text. Apart from his excellent narration, Robert Knutson included Bible verses from other books. This is commendable as the reader is enlightened on the relationship between the texts and other stories in the Bible. I would not know that ‘but within a few days’ referred to the relatively short three-and-a-half-year ministry of Jesus Christ. This book is more than enlightening. By reading The Solution?: Daniel 11:20-45 – A Historical Interpretation you are able to comprehend why some phrases are used in the Bible, and why some words carry more weight than others.

History lovers will have a wonderful experience reading about Catholicism in France, Julius Caesar, and religion in the 18th century. Reading about dechristianization and how it had forced religious observance into the privacy of the home was intriguing. I enjoyed reading about the effects of the French revolution, Napoleone 1 and his influence in the French society back then, the dynamics in the Catholic church in the 1700s, and how things gradually changed for the masses. The inclusion of the history of the church was a perfect addition as the author discussed Daniell 11: 40.

This book can be described as the best guide for anyone who does not understand the Bible, shifts in religion over the years, and other historical references in the book of Daniel and the entire Bible by extension. The simplicity of the author’s words, his enthusiasm when writing and his style of narrating events are some of the things that make this book outstanding.

I highly recommend The Solution?: Daniel 11:20-45 – A Historical Interpretation to every reader who wants to read about Christian church history and the impact of religion. If there is one thing the author focused on when writing this book was the details in the text. The decoding of bible verses and technical Christian terms are what I found to be most profound.
