What exactly is a Wackadoodle? To me, it sounds like a mutt between some wacky dog breed and a poodle. Well, that’s not what it is, but rather a family’s last name. They are a “Blended family” as explained in this first book from author T.A. Duggan in what will become a series of adventures titled We Are the Wackadoodles: Welcome to Our Blended Family.
Blended with the common denominator of love, the dad C.C. and mom J.J. Wackadoodle comprised a family of children adopted from many places around the world and brought into their home on Flower Street in Wonderworld. They have boys and girls, mostly in the single-digit years of age, with the exception of L.J. – he just turned 13. There are Coco & Mabel, Cecilia, Anya – age 10 – who loves to tap dance by the way, Viva age 7, and Johanna age 6. Each introduction includes a cartoonish caricature portrait of the child along with a few sentences stating their bio and in some cases their origin – or rather how they came to be adopted into this large Wackadoodle family. This is a very delightful way to bring to the young minds of readers the diversity of people from various parts of the world, and how each child is lucky to be in a loving home with lots of fun siblings.
It’s not all fun and games, however. C.C. wakes up with his alarm at 5:00 AM every morning, as he and J.J. prepare breakfast. A good healthy breakfast is very important to start each day. Then there is a list of chores for each kid to do, followed by school work and later more studying. Finally it’s off to bed in order to get a good night’s sleep.
The flow of We Are the Wackadoodles: Welcome to Our Blended Family is very straightforward, with the introduction and structure of the family’s daily activity. What is hinted is for readers to keep an eye out for sequels yet to come, where adventures and exciting things will be presented – now that we all have met the loving Wackadoodles.
