It has been said that a person’s dreams can be the gateway to discovering one’s true self and that person’s true potential. As the great Edgar Allen Poe once said, “Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.” In author R.J. Cole’s book Morpheus Speaks: The Encyclopedia of Dream Interpreting, an in-depth study of the nature of dreams and how they define a person takes center stage.
In this book, the author details various objects or situations which people in general tend to dream about, and goes in depth into what these particular dreams could mean for the person’s life or inner struggles. From dreams of dinosaurs symbolizing a fear of being outdated or not being needed to dreams of gambling representing taking too many risks with aspects of one’s life, the author showcases a detailed account of how dreams can reflect and affect people’s lives.
This was an incredibly well written and detail oriented book. The encyclopedia was thoroughly researched and showcased the author’s history and experience in the field of psychology to help interpret and locate the meanings behind so many different types of dreams. Morpheus Speaks is rich with insight for each type of dream imaginable, and also does a great job of giving historical and mythology context for certain aspects of dreams as well, showcasing how much time and meticulous research went into this book.
Morpheus Speaks is meant for anyone with a fascination or passion for dreams and dream interpretations, as well as anyone with a fascination for psychology and diving head first into the human psyche. As someone with an interest in how the mind works and dreams in general, it was really interesting to see how the encyclopedia gave such clear and precise interpretations of the dreams themselves, and even found myself as a reader fascinated with the interpretations of some of the dreams I have had before.
Overall this book was a truly unique and informative read that readers will not want to miss. If you enjoy dreams, dream interpretations and anything involving the study of the human mind, then be sure to pick up a copy of R.J. Cole’s Morpheus Speaks: The Encyclopedia of Dream Interpreting.
