Healing by His Spirit is a book about one woman’s strength and healing spanning a period of forty plus years. She faces adversity, struggles to forgive, and the fears that trouble her soul. What readers will find in this book is an emotional journey of faith, trust, and miracles God can perform through the pain and heartache she has had to endure. She finds redemption and finds that God is real within a world filled with darkness and hate.
Every once in a while, readers will come across a book that will bring them to tears, one that will rip out their heart only to rebuild it with hope and faith. Geraldine D. Bryant does exactly that in her book Healing By His Spirit. She moves her readers on a deep, personal level. Her story spans her life that includes rape, horrible marriage situation, dating again, and so much more. This is more than a story about how she healed after all the hardships; it is a story of how God was alongside her, guiding her through these trials turning her into the powerfully strong woman she is today.
Mrs. Bryant opens the book with a description of her home and general life, which seems familiar to readers. As if it could be our lives, our homes, our daily chores. She makes it personal right off the bat and causes the readers to relate to her thinking “this could be my childhood.” Everything seems ordinary, until it becomes apparent that it is anything but that. Everything she endures molds her into the woman she becomes and as the reader pages this story, we see her progress from the young 14 year old girl in the beginning to the beautiful grown woman at the end. Bryant is a masterful storyteller; readers could almost hear her voice, or rather the voice we give her, while reading as if she is sitting next to you audibly telling her story rather than it being written down.
This is a beautifully written book, which tugs at your heart. Anyone who is struggling through life’s hardships needs to read this book and hopefully be inspired by the hope that surrounds Geraldine Bryant’s words that there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel. There is hope and that God can turn any hardship into something good. I would recommend this to Christians young and old alike. Because the book is steeped in strong faith, some non-Christian readers may be turned off, but it is also a good book for those who are searching for something more in life. Geraldine Bryant does a remarkable job at telling her story and bringing emotions to the surface. Pick up a copy and see how it can change your life.
