In this short picture book titled Candy Cane Lane’s Story, readers are introduced to Mrs. Cane, who is going to have a baby. She asks the doctor if eating more candy is okay, and the doctor says it is, along with the joke, “You’re going to have a very sweet baby!” The parents decide to name their unborn baby girl “Candy” – so her name will be Candy Cane. That is a very cute part of the story. When Candy is born, she is a beautiful little girl. The people love Candy, and as she grows up Candy does wonderful things to those around her. They decide to name a street after her; hence, Candy Cane Lane.

This lovely story explains how the name Candy Cane Lane came into being. The book is published with a green-and-red candy stiped graphic border, and includes photographs depicting the various stages in which Mrs. Cane’s pregnancy progresses, and also once Candy is born. The galley text is simple and laid out to be only one sentence per page, as readers flip through the book. The story moves very quickly to the end, and is intended to be in the category of the first books which will be read to infants or toddlers.

The author and editor have put lots of loving attention into the format and presentation of this book, and it shows. It is an ideal book for a baby shower gift, or as a beginning addition to a family library for a newborn baby. With the preponderance of candy canes, it has a Christmas overtone, which is perfectly suited for a person named Candy Cane. This is the perfect Christmas gift for any young child in your life.
