One of the biggest questions our world has always faced is how the universe itself can be explained. Some turn to science and data to explain its origins, while others turn to a more spiritual or religious aspect to help them understand the world we live in. As Leonard Nimoy once said, “I’m touched by the idea that when we do things that are useful and helpful – collecting these shards of spirituality – that we may be helping to bring about a healing.”

In author Neil C. Griffen’s From Science to Spirituality: Finding Spirituality in Science, the author takes readers on a deep dive into the worlds of science and spirituality. Finding a world where the two overlap, the author explores the scientific method and the process for which it works, and then moves onto spirituality and how science has yet to master or explain certain processes such as psychic phenomenon, the processes of the brain, or even life after death.

This is a truly fascinating read. The author does a marvelous job of crafting a non-fiction book that forces the reader to think critically and look at both science and spirituality in a whole new light. The way the author questions religious aspects, such as sin in regards to those with mental health struggles, or the way the author delves into scientific laws and processes such as quantum entanglement, show a dedication and knowledge of the subject that keeps readers invested in the author’s research and discoveries.

This was the perfect read for those who like non-fiction reads, in particular those that focus on spirituality, religious studies, scientific knowledge and the universe as a whole. I have always been fascinated by the idea that science and spirituality could meet somewhere in the middle and many of the world’s strangest phenomenon could have a basis in reality, and this author’s work showcased that our understanding of the universe still has a ways to go and there is room for both schools of thought. One cannot cancel out the other, and spirituality does have a place in the world, even if it doesn’t come from any one organized religion.

Overall, this is a powerful, evenly-paced, well researched and engaging read that expertly blended the study of spirituality with science. The author’s expertise in the field of science is equally matched by his studies in the world of spirituality, and the reader will find themselves not only learning and discovering things in both of these worlds, but will find a thought-provoking read that is well-written and explores the subjects in a whole new light. In a recent paranormal documentary series called Hellier, an investigator named Tyler Strand made an excellent quote that said, “I think one man’s angel is another man’s alien.” This expertly showcases the author’s work, as neither science nor spirituality can fully explain the many mysteries of the world single-handedly, and this book does a great job of educating the reader on this thought-process.
