One of the things you learn in high school and college is that one of the basic building blocks of life and matter overall in the universe are molecules. Molecules make up everything, from the stars themselves to everyday people. As Tom Noddy once said, “It’s an electrical network, isn’t it? It’s molecules in space… and they’re linked to each other electrically. Which is to say, one end of a soap molecule is attracted to a nearby water molecule electrically. The bubble is this network. The whole thing is inter-dependent.”
In author Chuck Champlin’s Think Like a Molecule: Finding Inspiration in Connection and Collaboration, the author explores the world of molecules in a unique and powerful way. Author Chuck Champlin seeks inspiration through deep and imaginative journeys from within the vast and varied realms of the cosmos themselves through the exploration of molecules. From the science of molecules and their function in the universe to the infinite possibilities that arise when exploring and thinking like a molecule, which allows the author and by proxy us readers the ability to be aware of the physical foundations that have in turn given rise to our very thoughts.
This is a read that involves a lot of self-exploration, from understanding the science of molecules and their behavior to how these building blocks could create even more possibilities within our universe and everything in between. The author writes a powerful and extensive read in a short amount of time, and yet will leave a lasting impression on the reader. This thought-provoking book does an excellent job of showcasing the contrast between the accidental nature that billions of molecules came together to make us, and yet allowed our formed minds to be capable of creating new and exciting new things to populate our universe.
This is the perfect book for those who enjoy scientific and philosophical ventures, and non-fiction reads which challenge and compel the reader to explore notions that may be outside of their own comfort systems. As a reader with an interest in possibility and the unknown, it was fascinating to see this author’s journey down this path of exploration that showcases how the worlds of science and philosophy are more connected than many previously believed.
Intense, thought-provoking and educational, the author pushes boundaries and explores concepts and ideas directly tied into the nature of molecules and what they in turn have created that are far beyond the imagination of most of us readers. This is one of those rare books that pushes the reader to reach beyond themselves and what they already know, and delve into the unknown without any guarantee of a definitive answer to some of life’s most challenging questions. A lot of critical and key information and philosophical questions posed within a short amount of time, this is a book that readers will not want to miss.
