If there’s one thing I always love, it’s a good scary story. This covers many different sub-genres in the horror realm, of course, but one of my all-time favorite things to read about is the paranormal. While everyone may not believe or at least be sure there is something more out there when we die, or some of us may not “move on” from the land of the living right away, I’ve always been one to be more open to that idea. I’ve seen and read enough to at least not count it out and to be even curious and intrigued by paranormal occurrences. Like anything, though, there is likely going to be good and bad paranormal experiences for people, and that is just some of what we read about in The Fallen by author Craig Conrad.
This book follows the story of Ashleigh Cruz, an attorney from the Cruz family, and the man she hires, Paul Rice, to investigate an old factory for reported paranormal activities and to hopefully cleanse the building so they can subsequently sell the property. His paranormal investigation soon reveals much more is going on than he previously had thought, and because of this, sends him on a dangerous and chaotic road which will likely lead to nowhere good. Rice cannot stop the path he is now on and soon encounters different strange and intriguing characters along his journey.
As this novel proceeds, there are many twists and turns abound that will surely have you feeling the tension, and make you excited yet anxious to find out what is going to happen next. Particularly when the demonic curse that haunts the Cruz family is revealed and you find out it dates back all the way to the Spanish Inquisition and has followed them ever since, no matter
where they go. This curse will continue to pick them off one by one – unless someone helps them end it once and for all.
The writing of Conrad is equally enthralling and stylistically unique. He writes in a way which leaves his audience constantly eager for more, while seamlessly weaving his tale together, to create a world that you feel as though you are there yourself. He is a captivating author who expertly writes about the paranormal and how both believers and skeptics react to such things in the world. I certainly look forward to reading more from him in the future.
