Many people think when they reach a level of success in their life, nothing can touch them. The hardest part of success is not only keeping that success going, but in facing the challenges and hardships that success can breed. As Booker T. Washington once said, “Success is to be measured not so much by the position one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome.”
In author H.F. Beaumont’s Stockdale Avenue, the series of novels surrounding Stockdale Landscape Construction and the various activities the business and the families of those who run the business continues. Exploring what success can mean to a family and what dangers can come with, the story follows the Stockdales and the Albrights, who find their success has given them an opportunity to have homes built for them in Oregon. A meeting between Fred Stockdale and Mr. and Mrs. Dunley has led to secrets being revealed during the murder investigation after construction began on the Albright home, as both John and Fred work to bond and spend time with their families in the midst of turmoil and chaos.
This is another powerful entry into this blend of drama, action and adventure, and even a hint of paranormal/spiritual themes within the narrative author H.F. Beaumont has brought to life over the course of several books. The evenly-paced read is definitely a very character-driven novel, with a host of amazing personalities introduced throughout the narrative. The story starts out strong and shocking, as a frightening crime brings not only the FBI, but a powerful organization into the manhunt for kidnappers who have taken the wives of the two men behind Stockdale Landscape Construction. As the search for the kidnapped women takes place, intrigue settles in as characters discover a helpful spirit and her friends, a father uses his influence to save his daughters, and agents work to bring down the criminals and those within the state government who helped them. This is just the beginning of the narrative, as the author takes readers into some surprising and interesting directions.
Stockdale Avenue is the perfect read for those who enjoy action and adventure stories set within real-world characters and their little worlds, all while incorporating various themes and elements from other genres and blending them together into a cohesive narrative that gels perfectly together. As a fan of the genres used in this narrative, it was easy and fun to get sucked into this story and get lost in the lives of this wonderful cast of characters.
A memorable, exciting and creative tale like no other, author H.F. Beaumont’s “Stockdale Avenue” is the perfect read to get lost in as we head into spring. A fantastic blend of mystery, suspense, drama, supernatural and action genres, this narrative speaks to the reader instantly and drives forward an unforgettable plot that truly makes the reader feel like they are on a journey.
