In Being American Matters, author Martin Buchalski, a management consultant with extensive global experience and founder of International Consumer Products Inc., shares his nuggets of wisdom that he has learned over the years.
As a second-generation American, he was lucky enough to achieve business success beyond his wildest imagination. It is after forming International Consumer Products, a consultant company, that he and his co-founders were awarded contracts both in the USA and other countries worldwide. These contracts they acquired internationally, he believes, were partly because of his American descent and the trust worldwide in the business acuity of Americans, which is highly regarded.
Author Martin Buchalski further brings up historical events in Europe and how they affected the business world. An example is the First Gulf War, which occurred while he was living in the United Kingdom with his family. He details his vacations with his family around Europe and the uniqueness of some of the countries they visited. In his book, he appreciates the support of his wife, Debbie, and her role in helping him move up the business ladder.
Being American Matters takes readers through the author’s journey in starting his own company and the processes that took place to enable business growth. He further explains the distinct and significant differences between American businesses and those of other countries that quickly become apparent to those involved. The book broadens the readers’ understanding of different aspects of life and brings out fervid feelings in a reader in appreciating being an American.
There is a lot to learn from this book. The research done before writing this book is thorough and the author explains his ideas, thoughts, and views meticulously. This, I believe, makes the book a masterpiece. Both citizens and non-citizens of the U.S.A. whose interest is in running multinational corporations and making it in the world of entrepreneurship can get many insights from this book.
Being American Matters is both an educative and fascinating read. A book that students attending international business studies should have as a must-read addition to their curriculum. Others can learn some interesting nuances about the issues faced by the various cultures and laws of international trade – many of which are quite surprising.
