Read Book Review

This collection of prayers, as I read them throughout my week, brought me
an immense sense of peace and tranquility amongst the chaos of a busy
work-week. Where deadlines and chores seemed to never-end, neither did the
praises and thoughtfulness of Patricia Offerman’s lines of poems. Each poem is
carefully crafted and considered, being kept short and sweet – to the point of
satisfaction and ease.

In the poem, “My Spiritual Bread,” the author cites the burdens which we all must
bear, and the strength that we have to get through it all comes from the Lord,
saying: “He is ever faithful, He is ever so true.” reminding the reader to trust in the
Lord, who will provide a way for us to make it through.

The very title of “Every Moment, Every Minute” is a reminder to us that our lives
are sacred, and every second on earth is a gift. The author expounds glorious truths
in this poem, saying: “Don’t wait for tomorrow, for tomorrow may never come”
when reminding us all to not put off our day of repentance! To not push away our
time for prayers or service; the great day of our Savior’s return only grows nearer,
so hasten to His word.

My favorite poem from the entire collection of prayers, inspirations, and poems is
“I Go to My Quiet Place.” This poem is gentle and clear; the author tells of their
sacred place of worship. It’s not a church or a cathedral, but simply the author’s
reading chair. There, as she puts, is where she keeps her Bible, her books, and
writing tools. This is the place where she receives inspiration for her poems,
revelation, or perhaps divine inspiration, as she says: “Where daily I come to
bow – Waiting for your word, Your whispers.” This poem is comforting and it is
full of ease. Where some details of such life may be insignificant to some, a
follower of Christ will be comforted in the reminder of when He gently speaks to
us; a reminder of the still, small voice of spiritual confirmation.

I would recommend this collection to anyone needing some inspiration for their
busy work-week, a little spiritual lift, as well as a friendly reminder we are
indeed all God’s children. That the Savior’s love for us is everlasting, His voice is
sweet to the ears that listens, and His grace extended to all who hear Him. Upon
taking a moment of your time to read Patricia Offerman’s prayers, you may find
that you are peaceful and in a quiet enough space to, in fact, Hear Him!
