As the last two years have taught the world, illness and disease can either bring out the best in us, or the worst. The struggles between nations and within individual countries over health mandates, vaccines, human rights, and preventable measures in the face of a deadly virus like the COVID virus has become more crucial and important than ever. It has also revealed our best and worst instincts within ourselves. As CNN anchor Daryn Kagan once said, “Bad things do happen in the world, like war, natural disasters, disease. But out of those situations always arise stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.”
In author Arturo Riojas’ Heaven and Earth: Cancer Unleashed, the author blends science fiction and self-help into one unique fusion. In the novel, the author explores an alien race from the planet Treretum, who have visited Earth in the past. However now these aliens and humanity face a common threat, when microscopic alien invaders from the planet Muimdac attack both planets. The creatures invade the host body, consuming them from within and then transforming them into agents to serve the Muimdac purpose. As the fictional story takes place, the author also educates the reader on the threat of cadmium poisoning and its symptoms on our health, as well as its contribution to illnesses including the modern day COVID virus.
This is such an interesting and creative blend of sci-fi mythology and non-fiction education on a dangerous element which causes serious harm to our bodies. To be able to find that balance between teaching the reader serious facts about our own health and finding an entertaining and mature way of relating our health to a fictional tale is a commendable achievement. The character development was heartfelt and layered, helping to elevate the tension of the narrative itself while showcasing both the worst and best that both worlds have to offer in the face of annihilation.
This is the perfect read for those who enjoy science fiction and self-help books. In particular, this book will appeal to those who love sci-fi that introduces new mythology and worlds into the broader universe we ourselves occupy, and yet also manages to find new and exciting ways to educate readers on important health topics such as cadmium poisoning. As an avid sci-fi fan, I was enthralled with the amount of detail and history the author put into this mythos, incorporating elements of our own world and the themes of the elite governing and controlling the masses that we see in our world today.
A memorable, lengthy, and engaging story of alien invasions and our own health, author Arturo Riojas’s Heaven and Earth: Cancer Unleashed is a fantastic new sci-fi and self-help read. The fusion of fiction and non-fiction was a brilliant twist on this type of narrative, and the amount of research and knowledge the author poured into this book concerning cadmium poisoning and the creativity that went into the alien mythos made this story inviting and entertaining.
