As an avid writer and reader, I found this book to be very interesting and readable. Supply Chain 20/20: A Clear View on the Local Multiplier Effect for Book Lovers looks at the way the industry has worked traditionally, with new players, important terms, and ways in which the industry needs to update itself. From copywriting, to the ins-and-outs of printing, it is a must-read for anyone thinking about writing and marketing in a book.
I like how the book talks about the industry, but also how our actions within the chain affect our global and local economies overall. This was the first time I was exposed to the Local Multiplier Effect (LME). With the pandemic and supply shortages, the LME is more important now than ever.
I also like having the different types of publishing described to me; who does what, who owns what, etc. As a book reviewer, I see a lot more books that are self-published, and all over the last few years e-books have been gaining momentum. The industry is really changing, but yet has held on to old methods, possibly for too long. Finally, who knew printing was so complicated?! From the paper to the colors to printing the spine, it is not something an amateur would want to take on.
I took away a lot of facts about the industry, but also respect for the author. The book is logically organized, explanations are thorough, and the book was easy to read. I planned to read in manageable bits but found myself more than half-way through on my first sitting. I think that surely other players in the book supply chain must agree with her; it is hard for me to understand why nothing has changed in decades.
Supply Chain 20/20: A Clear View on the Local Multiplier Effect for Book Lovers by author Kim Staflund does a really good job of how industries must change and adapt to flourish in our new economy and global world.
