One of the genres of books that has survived since the dawn of mankind is the fantasy genre. In one form or another, fantasy stories have become a part of the fabric of our society. From fables and folktales passed on from generation to generation, to complex worlds of elves, orcs, and giants who walked the Earth millennia ago, fantasy stories are a brilliant vehicle for exploring the potential for creativity and human ingenuity.
In author Paul Fletcher’s Return of the Ancients: The Huntress Trilogy (Book 3), the author takes readers into a rich fantasy world of magic, ancient history, and dragons. Upon discovering an ancient collection of history and culture, the band of dragons, along with their human companion Mira, go on an adventure which will see the revelation of an unexplored area of the forest they live in, and the return of a powerful source of energy that will change their lives forever.
The author did a fantastic job of writing in a way which allowed readers to jump into the narrative without first having read any of the previous entries, while also giving fans of the series a sense of familiarity as they see their favorite characters evolve and grow. The world-building was superb, giving readers a brand-new world to explore and the author’s use of descriptive scene-building and character-growth made the narrative come alive in the reader’s mind.
This is the perfect read for those who enjoy fantasy tales, especially fantasy-driven narratives that explore fictional worlds and employ the exploration of relationships and friendships between mythical humanoid creatures and humans in general. As a fan of fantasy narratives, I was immediately drawn into this world, and although I am fairly new to this series, I found the characters to be well defined and the pacing of the novel to be fast-paced yet well-balanced with the amount of world-building the author managed to place in this novel.
Entertaining, wildly imaginative, and brilliantly written, author Paul Fletcher’s “Return of the Ancients: The Huntress Trilogy (Book 3)” is a must-read fantasy book of 2022. The rich character development and the deep-dive into the world’s lore, as well as shocking twists and turns for both the world and some of the main characters as the story ends will have readers on the edge of their seat. A fantastic way to mark a journey’s end with this particular trilogy!
