Tuesday is the name of a snow-white, frisky cocker, which readers are introduced from the first days brought home as a puppy and placed under a Christmas tree. Through many of the escapades of life, meeting her cat and other friends, and ending with a photo of her tombstone, we get to enjoy a lifetime of puppy-love all within this short story. Author Becky Hohnstein has adorned her rhyming prose with precious photographs of Tuesday throughout this creative and beautiful story, appropriately titled Tuesday’s Story.

Tuesday’s Story begins with instant love; that of her human parents as well as all of the readers paging this picture driven dog-story book. As Tuesday plays in the snow, readers get to see her fleece white curly fur sprinkled with snow on her face, with having her black eyes and nose accent these adorable images. However, all of her frolicking is not as clean as the snow; we see Tuesday getting her paws and face muddy with dirt often while playing outside.

Readers also get to meet Checkers – her black & white cat friend. Together, Tuesday and Checkers play all the time, that is when they are not napping, and get into the occasional mischief cats & dogs seem to surprise their owners. On Halloween readers get to see these four-legged-pals dressed up as devils, whereas Checkers looks more ominous than Tuesday. Tuesday should have been an angel, after all she is totally white – who ever heard of a white devil? We also are treated to a fashion-show, so to speak, of the many hand-knitted sweaters made for Tuesday throughout her life.

Many of the daily fun pleasures of living with Tuesday are brought to be viewed for the readers’ enjoyment. We see her grimy and muddy, and after a bath, sparkling clean again. There is a portrait photo of Tuesday in a garden with artwork (on page 11) which is absolutely stunning and would make a nice print to frame and put on the wall of a child’s room.

The brevity of a dog’s life is also brought to the story, as the ending shows a stone with the inscription, “Dogs Leave Paw-Prints on Our Hearts.” Yes, Tuesday’s Story will leave indelible memories in the hearts and minds of all children fortunate to have this story read to them, time-and-time again.
