The role society has on a person has often come into question over the years. Can we, as individuals, survive and thrive alone? Or do we need to be part of a society to grow and evolve into the person that will survive in a world that waits for no one? The evolution of society itself plays a role in this question, as those who are living in a more advanced or prosperous society often benefit more than those societies that do not evolve or grow as a people. As Aristotle once said, “He who is unable to live in society, or who has no need because he is sufficient for himself, must be either a beast or a god.”
In author Ralph L. Bayrer’s Liberty, Science and Wealth: The Evolution to Modern Society, the author explores how freedom has played a central role in the creation of American prosperity and many of the most celebrated advancements of western civilization. Studying the economic, political, and scientific histories of our world, and especially modern western civilizations that have had an impact on society and freedom in particular, the author hopes to show a correlating connection which defines how to further our academic and popular understanding, and hopefully help steer governments around the world away from decisions which will prove to be an error in judgement and slow down society’s progress in the process.
The author did an amazing job of crafting an academic and thought-provoking read. The research and study the author poured into the book was mind-blowing, finding the perfect balance in the author’s study of science, history, and the economy – as it relates to society and the impact freedom has had. From the analysis of how stability in the economy and opening trade routes in the Mediterranean saw humanity begin to flourish once more, to the stark contrast of modern-day individualism versus the conformity and needs of an individual to the group of the olden days, this book both educates and challenges readers to think critically and examine our own history to see how these prosperous nations have become so.
This is the perfect read for those who enjoy non-fiction books, especially those that enjoy reference and educational reads about society, economics, politics, history, and science. As a fan of history and the evolution of our world, it was fascinating to see the research and development which the author poured into this book, and the perfect harmonious tone the author struck with readers when providing evidence for his theories.
Engaging, thoughtful, and mind-bending, author Ralph L. Bayrer’s Liberty, Science and Wealth: The Evolution to Modern Society is a must-read reference and societal book. The knowledge and philosophical study that this book provides is truly fascinating, and will keep the reader’s minds active and thinking critically as the author presents his findings to the audience.
