God is unhappy with how mankind has evolved, and He has sent a blue comet to destroy the Earth. Before He does this, He offers the world one last chance; for them to complete an almost impossible task. Someone must place a golden disc on the outstretched left hand of a gilded statue of Mary Mother of Jesus. The statue sits atop a cathedral in Avignon, France. The deadline for the task’s completion is only one month, but once the disc is in Mother Mary’s hand, God will cause the comet to miss Earth, and humanity will be saved. This incredible mission sends a group of characters to the
farthest reaches of the world. They are faced not only with the knowledge that the fate of the world rests within their hands, but also their own spirituality and relationships with God.
There is a lot packed into this novel. Readers will get everything from politics, environmental concerns, worldview of other cultures, spirituality and religion. While it might seem like there are too many topics within the story, it all flows well together and is easy to read and understand. There are times it gets confusing as to who is speaking, but once the reader gets a grasp on the characters’ individual speech patterns it gets easier. For readers who would be concerned that the novel is overly “preachy”, it is not. It does have some religious elements, but it is not thrown in the reader’s face as some other Christian (religion) based novels tend to do. These elements add to the storyline rather than distract from it.
This is an enjoyable novel to read and makes the reader think not only about their own walk with God and how things would be if the end of the world were to happen, but also how they respond to difference cultures, and how politics shape the nation and world.
Overall, this is a novel that is both interesting and inspiring to read. Readers who enjoy Christian fiction, and Christian science fiction especially would enjoy reading Charles David Grotsky’s book. The Domain of Arrogance is a novel that deserves to be read and enjoyed. The end leaves the reader feeling both satisfied and hoping for more from this author.
