In The Samaritan’s Patient by author Chevron Ross, a teenage girl who follows the path of good work shockingly finds herself caught up in woes which push her to the point where she has nothing to live for.
Paige Abernathy has found herself admitted to Frazier Memorial with a lot of cuts and bruises mostly on her limbs and torso. She’s lucky to be alive after being found by a stranger at Bustamante Bridge, where a vicious attack almost ends her young life. A police officer’s visit surprises her, and a series of questions ensue regarding the incident. Sadly, she hardly remembers anything in what looks like a brain trauma aftermath. However, an unexpected question regarding her choice of apparel, and the reason behind her presence at the bridge at an odd hour sends her head into a spin, which is quickly followed by an awful seizure.
After citing surly surroundings, prohibited access to hospital records, the protagonist’s name making headlines in major newsrooms, and a near onslaught to a hospitalized patient, the author expertly sets course for a roller coaster of astonishments, exposures, twists, and turns, which will pivot a reader’s overall view of the story. Songs of hope, inspiring scriptures, and insightful conversations combine to offer a unique viewpoint on the significance of spirituality, love, and prayer, to a desperate and highly suicidal world. The protagonist’s experience with the internet leads one of the well-hewn characters, Mr. Chen, to make a conclusion that may spark a debate as well as reflection among readers – “The Internet is not a fount of wisdom. It is only a tool. Those who confuse the two invite disaster.”
