Remember what it was like to sit on grandpa’s lap and share stories? Or sit with grandfather making up games? This book is exactly that. Grumpy and Sarah, sometimes Hannah joins in, sit in Grumpy’s magical chair. They explore the imagination of a little girl mixed with the older man’s childhood memories. It is a story about the connection a child has with their grandfather through imaginative play and story time.
Many readers will find this book to be an absolute delight to read. This collection of stories is so well written that readers of any age would love reading it. It is a collection filled with such childlike innocence and a child’s love for their grandparent. This was an easy-to-read book, making it perfect for young readers to read out loud. It is filled with short easy to follow sentences; the chapters/stories are short and perfect for a quick bedtime read. It is easy to pick up the book for one story and put it down, but like with potato chips, you can’t have just one.
Each story is different, and flows perfectly from one story to the next. It doesn’t feel disjointed when transitioning to a new story. The writing gives the reader a warm sense of love, innocence and a desire to call our own grandparents to say “hi.” There is nothing in the collection that would be considered inappropriate for young readers, it is a wholesome story which could be hard to find sometimes. Each story starts with a segway of what was happening prior to the imaginative play begins such as Grammy making Sarah a princess dress for a Renaissance Fair or Grumpy taking Sarah to her first skate party. It showcases the bond between these two characters, and it is so beautiful to watch their bond grow through each story.
Welcome to My Chair is a sweet book, perfect for any reader. Each story contained in this collection is easy to love and enjoy. It will keep young readers wondering what kind of adventure Sarah and Grumpy will go on next. This is a book youngsters would be returning to time and time again.
