Life Is Like a Box of Chocolates by author Dana Jetey is a collection of three stories which follow the life of a girl in different stages of her life, where her childhood dreams and aspirations of achieving her goals turned out to be different than she had hoped. The stories depict how life is unpredictable, just like a box of chocolates, and this holds true for all three stories. In the later part of her life, she finds herself with kids, a husband, and all the obstacles which keep her from pursuing her dreams.
As we read about Diana’s life in the first story, we learn she is a bright child with a lot of ambition for her age. She is empathetic and wants to make a difference in people’s lives, which is why she aspired to be a surgeon. Despite facing hardships, she did not give up until the age of 15. However, she later changed her ambition to become an English professor, still as determined as ever. While leaving for her university, she faces an unfortunate situation where she realizes that some things are beyond her control, and she must move on.
In the third story, Diana is married with kids, but she soon gets divorced. She then reunites with old friends and meets a man who has lost his memory due to depression and is potentially dangerous. The story ends on a mysterious note, but it teaches us that life is full of unknowns and we must try different things without knowing exactly what we will get. This is similar to our lives, where we are given certain opportunities, and we then decide what we will do with them.
The book is well-written, and the author expresses the emotions of the characters beautifully. It provides a realistic insight into the struggles and complexities of life, which readers can relate to. The author has done an excellent job of portraying the character’s emotions and thoughts throughout the book, which makes it more engaging. However, the transitions between the three stories could be smoother.
Life Is Like a Box of Chocolates is an excellent read for those who enjoy contemporary fiction and are seeking an inspiring and thought-provoking story. It is worth considering if you are looking for a quick and entertaining read.
