Like his previous book, Target Aquarius, author Scott Beringer’s latest, Aquarian Awareness, is fascinating and bewildering. It defies generic description. Call it a spiritual or metaphysical guidebook combining theological notions of Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, New Age Naturalism, and esoteric mysticism. Beringer has a political viewpoint which is playfully interspersed in his prose; it can be read as informing his ideas or as tangential commentary. Political viewpoint aside, he articulates a fully formed philosophical theory of what is real, what is illusory, and how each of us can and should become self-aware and ascend above the illusory to the real, higher state of being.

In Aquarian Awareness, Beringer states that the world which we think is real is, in fact, an illusion. He refers to The Matrix heavily in this perspective because of the reality/illusion dichotomy. Beringer gives clues that are to be found in films, texts, songs, commercials, wordplay, and numerical connections. These clues reveal the “man behind the curtain” so to speak. That is, these clues show how reality, as we know it, is fake. They also show how the road to self-awareness and spiritual unity lies in overcoming the addiction to this illusory world. Among these more obvious addictions are overeating, drugs and pharmaceuticals, alcohol, and technology. Such addictions keep you dependent or “attached” to this false reality, keeping you in a prison “cell.” So entrapped, we are unable to become individually free in order to realize that although individually free, we can then recognize we are more like biological “cells,” or more accurately organic/spiritual cells, part of a much larger spiritual oneness.

Structurally speaking, this road of self-awareness and spiritual unification is based upon polarities, waveforms, and frequencies. Regarding those polarities, darkness is just the absence of light. Thus, to stay addicted to the illusory world is to stay in the dark. Only by rising above this addiction can we become en(light)ened. The lower your frequency, the more tied you are to the base, perhaps sinful indulgences and thus stuck in servitude in the false reality or “matrix.” One must move up and right in frequency. Achieving this independence and spiritual oneness, one can then be 1) healthier and 2) ready to begin to see how he/she is independent yet organically and spiritually connected to everything. In other words, each of us is as one cell in a greater universe that is like a mother’s womb: we are all connected and in a state of evolutionary growth.

Aquarian Awareness is audacious and illustrates a frenzied mind trying to connect the dots of a global mystery. The book is thought-provoking and at times inspiring in its encouragement of self-elevation and spirituality. The connections of world play and numerology will depend upon you, the reader, to determine if they support this spiritual guidebook. Like its predecessor, Target Aquarius, there is a political bent or playful conspiratorial tone which some will take – and some will leave. My focus was on the book as a uniquely structured metaphysical perspective on reality and self-determination. Stylistically, it has a stream of consciousness feel which adds to the notion of rising above the perceived physical/fake world. At the least, philosophical readers will appreciate the effort it took to create this metaphysical framework. In general, many readers are bound to find something thought-provoking in this book, especially if they are interested in spirituality, metaphysics, and films like Avatar and The Matrix which challenge our notions of reality itself.  This book is for anyone ready to evolve. Beringer combines insight and intuition to help readers connect with their higher selves and move through life with purpose and peace.  It’s a powerful resource for awakening and aligning with the energies of this new era.
