In A Journey with Dauphine, author Patricia Bowen Pope allows her readers to witness the life of Penelope and how she was raised as one of six children to amazing parents. Her crush and now husband, Connor, experienced the true life of a married military couple, building friendships that were more like family when they were miles from home, and connections within the organization that lead to plenty of beneficial blessings granted by God. It was smooth sailing for the majority of the aspects in their married life and one particular constant remains, Penny’s red car bought was a gift from Connor, which they named Dauphine. Everywhere Penny went, Dauphine was extremely reliable. She helped all throughout traveling far distance with a gas limit that stretched about 40 miles per gallon, provided warmth during frigid temperatures and braced through dangerous weather conditions on the road. Even though Penny is Christian and Connor is Catholic, their relationship was well rounded in all aspects, something one can admire.
The connections with people they met have allowed them so many advantages that they never abused or took for granted. One take away from this book would be to remain faithful to your religious beliefs, look after others like family, always remain positive no matter how bad things can get, and to always remember that you’re not alone as there is always good people somewhere ready to help you by any means necessary. Even though this book revolved around Penny’s travels with her dedicated vehicle, Dauphine, it showed more about what quality of life looks like, how wholesome an individual can be with great people surrounding them.
Everyone can truly learn something from this book and apply it into their own lives, surely improvements may occur. In knowing that her life was more good than bad, showed that you can live a near perfect life embraced by the love of God and everyone that is around you.
It was very refreshing to vicariously experience the many journeys with Penny and her car, Dauphine because she lived a true “American Dream” life that many of us strive for. From being raised to be respectful to everyone, embracing others uniqueness, and was allowed to remain her true self, demonstrated that her life is truly a dream. Although she might have encountered a few bumps in the road, through constant prayer and expressing gratitude to God, everything worked out in her favor. As I read this wellwritten book, I came to a realization that her parents are a rare kind that I’m sure many individuals would wish to have had parents such as hers.
Author Patricia Bowen Pope kept a flow of positivity and all issues that Penny experienced were realistic yet safely executed. The love, trust, and understanding that were expressed within her family were infectious as I hope for everyone to be kinder towards the next.
I truly enjoyed reading this book because I got to travel around through the perspective of Penny and witnessing just how well life treats her. I highly recommend this book to everyone who would love to witness what pure happiness could be like.
