When looking to read an autobiography, all you really want when reading the book is
realism and the ability to feel seamlessly transported to the writer’s past life. That is
exactly what you can expect when reading Isabelle Olivia De Luca’s memoir, A Less
Than Perfect Life. In De Luca’s book, she reflects upon the life she has lived and
includes all of the ups and downs of it from the very first moment she opened her eyes
to the present time. While she may not have celebrity status, she does have a story to
tell; many stories to tell, in fact.
You immediately feel as though you are back in the post-World War II era in Queens,
New York, where De Luca grew up. She lived on different streets and apartments during
this time and had many experiences which helped shape her into the woman she is
today. While she had plenty of happy memories to share, she wasn’t going to shy away
from the not-so-happy ones either. Whether it was recounting a stranger with pedophilic
tendencies she encountered when she was around 7 or 8 and the subsequent
consequences of his actions, or that her parents tended to favor her younger sister over
herself, she spares no details.
After her earlier years, she details how her relationship with her high school sweetheart,
Joey, progressed; the birth of their son, and eventually covers what exactly happened in
their marriage. While De Luca may seem like your average woman, she has lived quite
a significant life which more than deserves to be chronicled in this fashion. If anything,
I’d say it was better to read from her perspective rather than the stereotypical celebrity’s
memoir. It was far more relatable and, in the end, she makes sure to mention that she
has made mistakes and has regrets, but that she has learned from them and will
continue to do so.
If that alone doesn’t make you feel a kinship with this author, I don’t know what will. At
71 years old, she had a lot of ground to cover throughout her life and left no stone
unturned and will surely have you intrigued to continue learning about her experiences
over the years and how they made her into the person before us today. A Less Than
Perfect Life by Isabelle Olivia De Luca is a must-read that will strike a chord with
audiences of all generations. Pick up your copy today!
