The idea of traveling in 2020 has taken on a very different meaning. We used to be able to plan elaborate trips or take off to points unknown without a worry to escape the everyday monotony of life. That is what traveling means to many who get stuck in a grind between work and family responsibilities. With so many of us currently staying at home due to a worldwide pandemic, thoughts of travel have had to take a backseat to staying safe. This is why books like A Narrative Tale of Morocco are great finds, now more than ever.
In A Narrative Tale of Morocco we get an intimate look into a trip that author J. Peter Hall took with his wife Jane and ninety other people on a tour through Morocco. I was excited to check this book out as I have always been intrigued with the Moroccan landscape, history and beauty. The idea of group travel excursions can make some people uncomfortable, but author J. Peter Hall shows how traveling with a like-minded group of people who want to take part in a shared travel experience can ultimately broaden your horizons.
I have to admit that before this book crossed my path, I had never thought to read a narrative description of someone else’s trip before. Having done so now with this title I realize how compelling it can be. The author takes you on a journey with his detailed account of what happened each day of the trip, and he does so in a way that you feel like you are very much along for the ride. What I truly appreciated most was the accompanying photography that showcased the stunning beauty of Morocco. Seeing the gorgeous architecture and the character of the Moroccan people gave you the visual interpretations to accompany this descriptive narrative excursion and took you there instantaneously. As a photographer myself I do endeavor to tell a story through my work. What author J. Peter Hall has done here is just that. He has created a truly immersive experience and retroactively brought the reader along on this epic trip in an intimate way.
With the world changing and life becoming an exercise in patience more and more each day, being able to escape from stress is key. Being able to take a literary vacation with A Narrative Tale of Morocco by J. Peter Hall was a welcome respite for me, and I’m sure other readers will find it equally appealing. I highly recommend it to add to your library.
