Almost Missing Heaven by author Terry Hurt is a thought-provoking and faith building Christian title which recounts the tale of a man whose predicaments jolted him to the possibility of missing heaven in what he terms as the most unfortunate and disheartening situation he would ever encounter.
Hurt highlights the tale of Butch, a man who abruptly stopped attending church after reaching adolescence. Every day, he would find himself becoming more and more enmeshed in the deceptions of sin, to the point he seldom thought about God. After a few years, he joined the Air Force and spent three years deployed in Germany. After a succession of difficult situations while there, he realized that a change in his life was required. Among them was an accident in his brand-new car, which he intended to export home, that almost claimed the lives of him and his inebriated companions. Upon returning home from the deployment, he was taken aback to hear a voice cautioning him not to repeat the action since it would be worse the next time. Unfortunately, he did not grasp the seriousness of the rebuke until days later, when an enticing opportunity that involved his new car presented itself.
This endearing story highlights the protagonist’s physical and spiritual struggles, which often appeared insurmountable. It skillfully immerses us in his thought process and manner of life, from childhood to maturity, revealing every element of his decisions and their consequences. The story swiftly exposes severe moral, judgmental, and character concerns beyond what one could readily presume to be trauma-induced flaws from his mothers early death or military service.
Terry Hurt, using numerous Bible texts, paints a stunning and powerful image of heaven–a place that has been from the beginning of time, where God is abounding in beauty and splendor in unimaginable ways. His comprehension of eternity in heaven and how it relates to Jesus’ mission on earth is impressive. Remarkably, he explains the highest number of rewards which come from having faith in God’s guidance.
This discourse, in my opinion, is a fantastic approach to bringing new believers and everyone else who might be considering seeking redemption in their hearts. I find great encouragement in the life of the main character, who persuaded me to reconsider how obedient I am as a Christian.
Unquestionably, Almost Missing Heaven is a transformative tool that offers a relevant and vital wake-up call at what the author describes as a turning moment in life where one must choose wisely. It has a strong scriptural foundation and well-chosen words that are eloquently crafted, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone who wants to know how the Holy Spirit communicates as well as what Salvation is about.
