Humanity as a whole covets so much out of our world. Power, love, hope, and so much more come into play in the average person’s life here on Earth, and the need to hold onto these things often dictates and drives our actions for ourselves or against others. However, one thing that so many fight for and even die to hold onto is knowledge. Knowledge of the future, of the past, or what could bring them happiness today is part of the human experience, and is coveted by all at one level or another. As Robin Morgan once said, “Knowledge is power. Information is power. The secreting or hoarding of knowledge or information may be an act of tyranny camouflaged as humility.”
In author Richard Delgado’s Art Proverbs: A Masterpiece, the author explores the nature of knowledge through proverbs and prose in both a non-fiction way and through ancient history. Deriving facts and beliefs from great leaders and thought-provoking figureheads, the author delivers discussions and learning on subjects such as the truth, loyalty, honor, and virtue.
This is a truly poetic, emotional, and thought-provoking read. The book does a fantastic job of highlighting not only art in all its beauty and splendor, but also elevates the conversation into life as a whole, showcasing how art can take on so many different meanings and levels. The breathtaking imagery the author’s words take on highlights the creativity and thoughtfulness of each page, bringing life’s most meaningful moments and the worlds natural wonder and making it a teachable moment for readers.
The book itself would make the perfect read for those who enjoy philosophy and non-fiction prose, especially those who enjoy art and finding how art and life can imitate one another. As a fan of thoughtful storytelling, I was engaged in the authors approach to the subject matter and became lost in the hope that each proverb or phrase, especially the description of art as a falling star that speaks of the balance between destruction and rebirth and wonder. This book also has undertones of religious thinking and history behind it, calling upon figures like Jesus and King Solomon as well.
A mesmerizing, thoughtful, and hopeful book of prose and thoughts, author Richard Delgado’s Art Proverbs: A Masterpiece, is a memorable and much needed read for 2021. The difficulty overcoming hopelessness is overwhelming in our modern age, but hopeful sentiments and brighter ways of looking at the world like the author’s book here make for the perfect medicine for the soul.
