Title: Too Too MacTiggle
PBR: Today we are talking with Antionette Melendez, author of an upcoming illustrated children’s book titled Too Too MacTiggle. Thank you for joining us Antionette.
Thank you for having me.
PBR: I must say your book is very cute with the prose and repetitiveness of “Too too” so often, creating a humorous style to your writing within the children’s book genre. How did you come to focus on the “Too too” aspect of your character, or what made you think of it?
Once you read about the pup constantly getting into trouble make that “too too” much trouble then will you understand why those words are repeated throughout the story.
PBR: All people, especially children love puppies. Are you a dog person? (I bet you are)
Most definitely! But in actuality I love all animals.
PBR: You divided up the book into chapters, and wrote about 2 or 3 times the normal length of a bed time story. Kindly tell us your thoughts about how you see the concept of chapters being introduced to children’s books?
In my opinion the introduction of chapters into children’s books allows children to experience the story not only through illustrations but also through prose. I enjoy seeing and hearing children laugh, and in order to extend their laughter I kept on adding humorous chapter after humorous chapter.
PBR: Your book builds up a bit of childishly interesting suspense with the “3 strikes, you’re out.” What message did you want to convey to children with this theme?
I used the “3 strikes, you’re out rule” to convey to children in life that there are consequences to their actions. But we as parents are there to teach our children to learn from these actions, so that they can grow up into responsible adults.
PBR: The puppy is adorable – and so are the elderly couple and pet store owner. What are your key concerns in working with an illustrator?
My main concern regarding the puppy is that he is depicted as just that a puppy, but very mischievous, zany and energetic Mr.MacTiggle needs to be depicted as the one who tries to keep order in the house, even though he himself is becoming more and more forgetful.
Mrs.MacTiggle will be the grandma we all love. She’s very kind and sweet and enjoys baking and gardening. The illustrator is doing a fantastic job bringing all of these characters to life.
PBR: Are you planning to do future adventures of Too Much MacTiggle? Or if not, what else are you planning on writing?
Too Much MacTiggle is the first in a series. I am currently working on the second book which is just as or even more humorous than the first.
PBR: We wish you the best of success with your very clever book, and please show us the completed version once the illustrations are finished. Thank you so so much for your time.
Once again I would like to thank you for your interest in my book “Too Much MacTiggle.” People of all ages are going to fall in love with this irresistible mischievous puppy.
