PBR:  Do you have a favorite fantasy series?

Being a YA Fantasy writer myself, I have to say that I really did love the Harry Potter series (Along with the rest of the planet!).

PBR:  Did you originally want to make the story of Peter Huddleston into a trilogy?

Well, actually, Galadria was never meant to be a trilogy. I wrote “Galadria: Peter Huddleston & The Rites of Passage” initially as a hobby. I love YA fantasy books and just wanted to give it a go. I sent it to a publisher, and they liked it so much that they requested a trilogy. That’s how the first edition of the book was traditionally published. Soon after that, I wrote the next two books in the trilogy, “Galadria (Book2) Peter Huddleston & The Mists of the Three Lakes” and “Galadria (Book 3) Peter Huddleston & The Knights of the Leaf”.

PBR:  Who is your favorite character in the series?

Peter is my favorite character in the Galadria Fantasy Trilogy. He is an “everyman” who is pushed into extraordinary circumstances, and through that, finds his own sense of courage and self-worth.

PBR:  How did you decide on the character traits of Peter?

I believe that there is some kind of greatness in everyone, sometimes people just need to be given a chance to prove it to others, but most importantly to themselves. I think everyone has insecurities of some sort…Peter’s was a lack of self-worth, but through all the challenges he goes through, he finds himself. I wanted Peter to slowly start to believe in himself, so his character couldn’t start the series as a secure, confident individual…those traits had to build.

PBR:  How difficult was it to manage the elements of continuity in this installment of the trilogy?

It wasn’t that difficult. Before writing book 2 of the Galadria Fantasy Trilogy I drew a lot of maps of Hillside Manor and the grounds to keep from getting confused about where Peter would need to go to get to certain locations. It also helped that Peter goes to Galadria for the first time in Book 2, so it was a brand new location.

PBR:  What methods did you use to keep the story consistent?

When I was writing “Galadria (Book 2) Peter Huddleston & The Mists of the Three Lakes,” I just drew some maps of Hillside Manor and Galadria, as well as made a very detailed chapter outline which I constantly referenced. Also, after a while, these characters become like your friends, since you’re thinking about them so much, so it becomes easier to know what some of them would do, and how some of them would naturally evolve.

PBR:  What was the most difficult aspect of writing this as a series?

For me, one of the more challenging aspects of writing The Galadria Fantasy Trilogy was always having to keep points in the story open for the next book. There were a lot of other adventures I wanted Peter to have, but couldn’t write them because it wouldn’t leave room for anything to happen in the next book.

PBR:  That was your favorite chapter to write?

In “Galadria (Book 2) Peter Huddleston & The Mists of the Three Lakes”, I enjoyed all the action scenes; they are the most fun for me to write. (Sorry to be vague, but I don’t want to give too much away!)

PBR:  How did you come up with the fantasy elements of the story?

I basically just made up a realm that I myself would want to visit. I think it would be awesome to live in an enchanted 3000 room manor, have a pet white tiger, and own magical chocolates that bestow random powers! I’d love to have an unbreakable boomerang too!

PBR:  What were some of the most interesting aspects of creating the world of Galadria?

I loved all the different histories of each of Galadria’s Lakeside Towns, as well as all the different magical creatures that inhabit Galadria, its lakes and its forests.
