Synopsis
This is a true epic adventure story about the discovery and excavation of the Acrocanthosaurus - Oklahoma's State Dinosaur - and the struggles and battles of the two rockhounds, Cephis Hall and Sid Love, who dug it up. The dinosaur was recovered from land owned by a major corporation. Although the Corporation had given approval for the dig, the Corporation did not take the excavation seriously. However, once the corporation discovered the high-dollar value of the skeleton they contested ownership and forced the two amateurs to battle the Corporation and its friends in government and academia for ownership rights to the specimen. The discovery marked the first time in history when two amateurs had managed to excavate a major dinosaur quarry totally independent of any back-up financial or logistical support from a major university or commercial fossil entity. The specimen eventually sold for $3 million dollars, the highest price ever paid for an unfinished and uncasted dinosaur specimen. The story chronicles the maze of adversities, minefields, and entanglements the two amateurs must navigate in order to ultimately claim their prize. This was truly one of the greatest dinosaur discoveries and excavations in history. The book blends science and history into an amazing true story.
