Synopsis
Like the protagonist in his book, Point Deception, Jim Gilliam ran away from home and joined the Coast Guard at fourteen. That was the begining of his young Indiana Jones style adventure that continues today. He served on active duty with the Coast Guard from January 1957 until June 1966. In June 1978 he joined the Army as an airborne combat physician assistant. Leaving the Army in August 1986 he was employed in civilian practice until May 2001 when he joined the Navy’s Military Sealift Command as a civilian mariner physician assistant. He is a veteran of multiple deployments to the Persian Gulf in support of operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. He started writing Point Decption while his ship was cruising off of the coast of Kuwait.
His book Point Deception garnered an honorable mention in the 2012 New York Beach Book Awards competition and was the number one finalist in the thriller category for the 2012 National Indie Excellence Awards. His short story “One Came Back” adapted from the sequel to Point Deception, The Campeche Reprisal (available soon) is the first runner-up in the WritersType May 2012 short story competition and will be automatically entered in the WritersType Annual First Chapter Contest.
Jim retired from the Military Sealift Command in February 2010. A native Texan, he now resides in Warwick, New York where he is busy writing the sequel to Point Deception, The Campeche Reprisal.
