Synopsis

Forced to choose between him and her strict Catholic family, Margaret leaves her native Scotland for the heat and prejudices of British India. At the mercy of two cultures she becomes caught up in the events of World War Two. The consequences of her journey ripple across the continents and generations, leaving two families unknowingly intertwined.

About the Author

Sylvia Atkinson is the retired head teacher of a school for pupils with moderate learning difficulties and associated special needs. In her professional life, she also taught in primary and secondary schools and worked as a district youth and community worker in South Yorkshire mining communities. She has written, directed and performed plays with young people, and used drama as a vehicle to help them make sense of themselves and the wider world. Sylvia is a member of a writing group and enjoys the theatre. She has travelled extensively and India remains her favourite destination. This is her first novel.
