Author George Davis shares his journey with bipolar disorder in this book. For 40 years, the author has had to deal with the disorder which sometimes affected him mentally, spiritually and physically.
In the first chapter, the author explains why he needed to write this book. His tone is friendly and warm, and one can easily fall in love with his writing. The first chapter is dedicated to everyone who either suffers from bipolar disorder or knows people who are affected by it. It is amazing how the author writes about the disorder. It may seem like a complicated condition for many, but George Davis writes that with the proper medical attention, individuals who suffer from this mental condition can live happy normal lives. The first chapter is an introduction to what the condition is, and how difficult it can be for someone who does not have support.
Chapter two is one of the most important chapters in the book. George Davis writes about humans and our need to appear perfect. No single soul is faultless, the author writes. He also explains that a lot of people who are diagnosed with bipolar disorder often try to hide their condition due to the shame it brings. The disorder comes with a number of symptoms like mood swings, lack of interest, depressive lows to manic highs, anger, anxiety, and sadness. This is challenging for many, as they want to appear normal. The author encourages people who are diagnosed with the disorder to not give up on themselves and try to enjoy life.
The author also writes about his Christian life and how being a firm believer has helped him overcome a lot of situations. George Davis’ spirituality has enabled him to cope with life. Religion is crucial to him, and he urges people who believe in God to have faith as it is through faith that they will overcome challenges. This book may have been written for individuals with bipolar disorder, but every other person can get the nuggets of wisdom from the author’s words. Bipolar Heaven and Hell is, in a way, a self-help and inspiration book that everyone who faces struggles can read. The style the author uses is simple and moving. There is nothing extraordinary in the text, just real situations and wise words for readers.
Giving real-life examples, George Davis writes how things were hard for him since his diagnosis in 1972. One important tip he had for people suffering from the condition was taking advise. It is vital to seek counsel and admit you need help. Family is important as dealing with bipolar disorder was easy for George Davis as his family was close by to offer him any help he needed. The author appreciates his wife for her efforts, his children, and parents for the love they showed him. This is a lesson to people who live with or know individuals with bipolar disorder.
Share your love and support to those with the condition, as it makes them feel loved and wanted. Bipolar Heaven and Hell is a great read for both patients and people who live with the patients.
