Derek is a typical college freshman excited to put his football scholarship to work and start school, and be away from his mom. He is even attending a university with the highest of prestige, but he is completely and totally normal and ordinary. Unless…you count the secret he has been hiding from everyone. He is a warlock. He is quickly surprised when he runs into fellow freshman and fellow warlocks: Matthias, Omar, and Tre’vell. Once they have met, the trio find themselves being attacked by horrifying monsters. Now they must learn how to work beyond their doubts and arguments to become a stronger team and discover where these terrible attacks are coming from. Their quest will take the farther than any of them had anticipated.
Derek immediately becomes relatable in the opening scene of Black Diamond and The Witch’s Curse because almost every new college student has had a similar experience with their moms. That is one of the appealing factors of this novel, the characters are relatable, likeable, and easy to see yourself in. Readers can imagine themselves as
one of the warlocks fighting the forces of evil which makes the novel all the more fun to read. It is a quick novel that reads fast and is easy to understand and follow what is happening. Readers will find themselves wanting to get to the next part fast just to find out what happens to the boys.
As the characters struggle to work out their differences, readers see conflict and how to work through it to become a better team; it is a great example on how our differences can actually help strengthen one another. Author T-Pot’s audience will find themselves rooting for the team and wanting them to succeed. Once the novel is over, there is a feeling of great satisfaction, as well as wanting more from the trio. There isn’t a lot of fluff scenes or moments when the storyline drags on. The story moves along at a wonderful pace.
Black Diamond and The Witch’s Curse is a great novel to get young readers, or new readers interested in the hobby and genre. It has action, adventure and some humor that appeals to many audiences. T-Pot does a wonderful job at presenting the story in a way that is interesting and easy to follow. This novel deserves many accolades because it holds its reader’s attention and leaves them wanting more.
