Chubby Wubbles: My Pet Ferret is a charming and delightful children’s book by author M.J. Abrams; it’s a book kids and parents will love. Chubby Wubbles: My Pet Ferret is the story of two young men and their adorable pet ferrets, Chubby and Coco. M.J. Abrams said in an interview that the book is based on his own son and his pet. “It was always fun to watch my son and his pet ferret interact with each other whenever I visited them,” said Abrams. “Because of the many experiences my son had with this adorably sweet animal, I could perceive an interesting story developing,” added Abrams.
The book tells the story of Mark and his pets, Chubby and Coco. After Coco runs away, Mark gives Chubby to his little brother, Jeffrey. Once Chubby goes home with Jeffrey, Chubby gets into all sorts of adventures as he explores his new home. He also finds a surprise as he searches for his best friend, Coco.
Abrams’ writing is so relatable and perfect for young readers. When he writes about Chubby exploring his surroundings, readers can easily imagine themselves out in the park with Chubby. That’s evident in this excerpt from the book: “Meanwhile, Chubby was having lots of fun, wandering around outside by himself. He was getting a real chance to live outdoors and play with the other animals. It seemed like his dreams were coming true!”
The book also has cute dialogue that adds to the deep connection between Jeffrey and Chubby when he looks for him: “Where’s my Chubby Wubbles?/ Where is he hiding?” The pictures in the text add depth to Chubby Wubbles as well. The illustrations are mixed with actual pictures of ferrets that made the text unique. Jeffrey and Mark are very kind to each other and to their pets. Chubby and Coco are vivacious characters in their own right and are endearing characters.
Chubby Wubbles: My Pet Ferret would be best for readers who want to learn more about pet ownership, especially of unique pets like ferrets and their cousins like weasels. The book would also be ideal for young readers six and older and parents that love books about pets, such as Eric Carle’s Have You Seen My Cat? The book can also teach young readers valuable lessons about the responsibilities of pet ownership and caring for animals.
Abrams has written a book that will make readers see how adorable pet ferrets can be. Chubby Wubbles: My Pet Ferret is a book that readers of all ages will love.
