The line between justice and vengeance is quite the slippery slope. There is often debate over that line, and how far one is willing and able to go over that line to achieve their goals. For many, that line comes from the emotions that impact those who seek it, for anger, pain, and loss are powerful emotions to motivate one’s actions and lead to an unclear mind. As Park Chan-wook once said, “The point of revenge is not in the completion but in the process.”
In author Dr. Hal Bradley DD’s Code Name: The Fox: Operation Durango Cartel, the author picks up where book one in this blended non-fiction meets fiction crime series left off. Two years have passed since the tragic assault, torture, and execution of protagonist Harold Brandon’s wife. With a price still lingering over his head, Harold seeks to finally take down the men responsible for his wife’s grueling death. After severing most of his connections to his old life and undergoing two plastic surgeries, Harold heads across the border to take down the Sonora Cartel, and exact the revenge he has so desperately needed for his wife. Yet can he succeed before someone else claims the bounty on his head?
The author did such an incredible job of picking up the narrative of book one in the Harold Brandon series and intensifying the action and character growth of protagonist Harold Brandon himself. The imagery and atmosphere really paint a vivid description of the settings Harold has to dive head-first into, and the open dialogue between this cast of characters really allows the reader to feel connected with a sense of realism that exudes the author’s own personal experiences into the narrative. The drama and tension does an excellent job of showcasing the realities of the drug cartels and the crime that spirals out of those organizations and those who live within them, but outside and within the law.
This is the perfect read for those who enjoy action and crime thrillers with a background and writing style that reflects the true crime aspect of the author’s own experiences and the real experiences into the drug trade as a whole. The balance of the author’s work with the personal and emotional connection readers make with the cast of characters made this such a gripping story to page without distraction.
Chilling, adrenaline-fueled, and engaging, author Dr. Hal Bradley DD’s Code Name: The Fox: Operation Durango Cartel is a fantastic action and crime thriller with notes of non-fiction true crime elements. The intensity of the narrative and the rich character dynamics, along with the tense atmosphere, make this a truly compelling narrative that is impossible to put down.
