The author of several well received, spiritually based poetry books, (For Three Sins or Four, Its Confidential, True Hero Worship) author Graham Ford further extends his literary repertoire with Eternity in the Mirror, a spiritually based collection of his poetic mentations, which spur both the mind and the spirit with evocative text.
Within this varietal collection of free verse poetry, author Graham Ford presents a work which offers compelling looks at life through his often-spiritual lens. Frequently, his works evoke a gamut of emotions, expressed through often thought-provoking verses populated with vivid imagery, stark observances and intellectual insights.
Spanning a variety of topics, the poems in this book expose more than author Ford’s intimations concerning religion /spirituality, they also bring into focus eyewitness views of the unmitigated presence of violence and sadness sometimes embedded in everyday life; altogether the book is a culmination of poems ranging from the familiar to the spiritually sublime.
Ultimately, while all of the included poetic works in this book are tremendously insightful and impactful there are a few, in particular, which stood out to me. Starting out, In Cana (When a disciple met Jesus) makes a stunning impact as an encounter between Jesus and a disciple is ripened with intimate devotion. Next, To Expound on a Day sends shockwaves of emotion as a horrific day is recounted. Also, along the vein of the spiritual experiences Jill the Remnant brings into focus divine forgiveness. Additionally, I found two poems retelling biblical stories to be very well written. Judith (A Present Day Hero) to be a gracious poetic retelling of the biblical story of Judith and Holofernes. As well as Samson and Delilah which retells that story with absorbing details. And, lastly but not least, The Buddha left a powerful impact, with its remembrance of a vision of the Buddha.
I found Eternity in the Mirror to be a read that was both engrossing and impactful. I did enjoy author Graham Ford’s collection of intriguing poetry. I found myself immersed in his creative verses, curious to see where his thoughts led to. In particular, I enjoyed author Ford’s writing style, which I found to be intelligent, grounded, easy flowing, and nicely descriptive, ultimately making his writing easy to connect with no matter what the topic. Overall, I would recommend this book not only to spiritual poetry enthusiasts but also to any poetry enthusiast this is well worth the read.
