Falling Leaves Observation is a provocative and emotional collection of original poetry from the author and poet and artist Casey Carter. Readers will be thoroughly enthralled and immersed into the poems and images in this latest book from Carter. This book has many poems about emotional volatility. In “Feeling,” the narrator describes the chaotic emotions of being lonely. In addition to issues of love, Carter also writes about nature and the effects of people misusing nature in many of the other poems. In his poem “Metropolis,” Carter also writes about how pollution has affected our world.
Carter’s writing is melancholy and haunting in its beauty. Falling Leaves Observation has such vivid imagery, readers can easily imagine the crunch of autumn leaves or the crackling fires in the woods. Carter is not only an excellent poet, but an impressive artist as well. Interspersed throughout the book are drawings and paintings which are just as thought-provoking as his poems. The abstract drawings are a wonderful compliment to the poems, especially Carter’s portrait of Edgar Allan Poe. Poe is a perfect portrait subject for the book because Carter’s poems are just as eerily gothic as the legendary poet’s famous poems.
Carter’s delightfully offbeat and explicit poems about love, nature, and excess would be great for fans of Beat poets such as Allen Ginsberg. Carter’s writing would be best for college poetry courses or adult poetry discussion groups. Falling Leaves Observation would also be great for poetry performances as well.
Falling Leaves Observation is a poetry collection that will engage readers. Casey Carter has written a text which is perfect for readers who want to read creative and compelling modern poetry. It is a book which certainly captures the essence of the changes of the seasons, as well as adding a new insight to the eternal mystery of love.
