As our modern world expands and grows both socially and technologically, people have drifted more and more to the world of conspiracy theories. With every advancement which promises or boasts of improved lifestyles and stellar new developments in everything from healthcare to economic power, there are those who see the dark underbelly of these advancements; seeing the potential for those with darker intents to manipulate or control these new technologies or systems to make or break the world as they see fit. While many choose to look past the negative possibilities which exist, there are those who recognize the failures of the past, and see a need to find balance between advancement and destruction.
In author Joe Klingler’s FLEE, the second book in the author’s NomaD Thriller Series, the author brings readers a direct look into a technologically advanced future where the problems of the past still reign supreme. When a shocking discovery leaves Claire in a tragic dilemma, Damon must ride out on his motorcycle with only seven weeks to find a means of saving her from the death that has come for millions of others around the world. In the wake of a growing threat to humanity, Damon must discover the only path towards her salvation while contending with shocking political and economic fallout and the nefarious plans of a madman – all at the same time.
The author has delivered a truly spine-chilling and gripping thriller. The heart-pounding terror that leaps into the author’s chest right from the beginning as the discovery Claire makes catapults the characters of this narrative onto a dangerous and harrowing journey was immediately felt, driving the readers to connect to both Claire and Damon instantly as characters while also building upon the world that readers of the author’s first book in the series had left behind at that book’s end. The action and suspense which drives the characters forward, from Damon and his mission to Jonny and his investigation for his next big journalism piece, are palpable as the story progresses.
This is the perfect read for those who love adrenaline-fueled thrillers, especially those which delve into themes of conspiracies, terrorism, and military action. The book also felt like a blend of the Bourne Identity meets Contagion, as the emotional weight of the world the author has created touches upon the real-world experiences which so many readers went through during the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The adrenaline pumping through the reader’s veins really came from the captured flight response of the main characters so early on in the book, cultivating an atmosphere of suspense that kept the story pushing forward entirely.
Mesmerizing, action-packed, and entertaining, author Joe Klingler’s FLEE is a must-read conspiracy thriller and a great addition to the NomaD Thriller Series! The twists and turns the narrative takes, as well as the pulse-pounding action and the shocking balance of conclusive finale meeting an open end to the narrative that leaves readers wanting more from these captivating characters make this a brilliant suspense and military action thriller you won’t be able to put down.
