The subtitle of Fruit for Thought describes exactly what the book is about; as author and poet Tony Noreiga takes a humble outlook to the many aspects of people, personalities and culture of our world. Interlaced with wisdom, original realizations and epiphanies, are guiding thoughts – many of which readers may have heard in other ways, yet originally articulated in a poetic layout of stylized galley text with original formatting. “Ponder or Converse” is boldly stated in the beginning of each chapter. Separated into chapters titled: Quotes and One-Liners; Inspirational Thoughts; Notions; Satire, Sexuality and Poetry, each page is liberally spaced with Noreiga’s thoughts simply stated with unambiguous clarity.

“If you never want to fail; never give up,” is one of my favorites. When you ponder the words, you cannot fail if you haven’t stopped trying, and only once you stop without achieving your goal you can actually say you failed. Another one is, “If you must express to someone that you are a Christian, you may wish to self-evaluate.” Pondering this I see how actions rather than words are more represented of defining
yourself than what you call yourself. My ultimate favorite was “I Am.” In this he defines himself with over a dozen definitions, from biological to racial to cultural – and then some. The reading of this poetic and philosophical musing is worth the price of purchasing this book alone – something each reader can then apply the technique to his or her own being, and I can guarantee you will be astonished by in the result. Sometimes less is more – which is exactly how I would define Fruit for Thought. As most people would use the expression, “Food for Thought,” Noreiga uses the word “Fruit.” By pondering this I believe fruit is food, but sweeter, healthier and more flavorful than most other foods; hence the words contained within are sweeter, healthier and more flavorful.

The lesser amount of text brings out more clarity, without clutter. The multiple readings of these sentences will bring out new and different feelings and emotions over each pass. Fruit for Thought is an extraordinary capitulation of wisdom, reflections and spiritual motivations, written with honesty, humbleness and respect. I certainly hope to read more from this very talented and insightful author in the future.
