Go Ask the Dead is a provocative and thrilling novel from Frank Topea. The provocative book will make readers ask questions about true love and the spirit world. This book tells the story of Amanda, a girl whose mother dies under mysterious circumstances. After she has an inappropriate relationship with her stepfather, she learns shocking facts about how her mother died. Amanda is also visited by Lily, a spirit that tells Amanda she can communicate with the dead. Her gift is soon tested after falling in love with the ghost of William, a Confederate soldier from the Civil War. Amanda’s relationship with William tests her beliefs about racial equality and her relationship with her beloved African-American maid, Delia. Amanda’s power also blurs the line between life and death.
Amanda is a complicated character that is caught between two worlds. She wants to be sexually adventurous like her mother was, but is constrained by the religious beliefs of her aunt and wants to be her own woman. Amanda also is in love with William in the antebellum South, but also wants to live in the present with her boyfriend, Craig. William is a complicated character that loves Amanda, but is still a racist relic from an ugly part of America’s history.
Lily is a spirit that tries to tell Amanda about how to wisely use her gift of communicating with spirits. Delia is the moral compass of Go Ask the Dead and tries to guide Amanda on the right moral path. She also tries to keep Amanda from getting hurt while navigating the supernatural world. Tropea’s writing is evocative and will entice readers. His writing about the Civil War-era South is so vivid, readers will feel like they’re in lavish Southern mansions. Topea’s writing is a mixture of smoldering and emotional.
Go Ask the Dead would be best for fans of supernatural and ghost romance novels like The Ghost and Lady Alice by Marion Chesney or Highlander in Her Bed by Allie McKay. The book has strong sexual situations, so it’s recommended only for readers 18 and older. Go Ask the Dead would also be ideal for readers who want to read about Civil War era romances, like Gone with the Wind.
Go Ask the Dead is a novel that will excite readers. The book is an exciting mix of erotica and supernatural drama that readers will love.
