With a surprisingly light rhyme and beat to his prose, author and poet Bobby McDaniels has assembled just over 30 of his recent poems in his collection titled Heavenly Inspired Poetry.
With a common thread exalting his love and respect of his Christian faith, he thanks God in a humble way within the context of many everyday instances. McDaniels also brings aspects of his growing up in a Christian home, in particular his relationship with his father. These insights reveal the true pensive kindness inherent in McDaniels’ mannerism, which leads to the very enjoyable comments about his love of his faith and how it has guided him through many perplexing moments of his growing up.
He is not overly romantic with his love of God as often is the case with many poets in this sub-genre of religious appreciation, yet Bobby McDaniels definitely gets his point across that God plays the most important role in his thoughts. Regardless of the depth of religious belief in his readers, one gets to appreciate the way God is cherished by McDaniels and thus provides an attraction to follow his thoughts rather than being preached to by his philosophy upon readers. This makes for an enjoyable appreciation of his poetry, and welcomes readers of various faiths to be inspired by this collection. I personally found that the second time I read through this collection was even more enjoyable because my mind was more relaxed knowing what was to come would be humble, honest and true.
One observation was in a poem titled “To Be Free,” which begins with “Timmy stole a home plate/ He got up and looked around/ People in the stands where cheering/ As the other team’s gloves hit the ground.” Timmy goes on to think about what just happened, as this is just a game – yet in Church he doesn’t see people standing and cheering, albeit they may clap to the music. To take his “Free time” each Sunday to go to Church was a decision he needed to come to grips with. There is more woven within the prose of this poem, of course, but the conscientious awareness of Timmy’s reveal makes for a very impactful poem.
This collection can be opened at any page, read and analyzed, placed down and opened at a different time, making this an ideal book for a nightstand or trip companion. Each time reading over the poems will undoubtedly reveal new and different thoughts to the reader; bringing this rather short book into being a guide, or outline for many instances in the future. I know I will enjoy this book anew, in a year or so from now, when I pick it up for a fresh revisit. Heavenly Inspired Poetry will surely find a welcome spot in the collection of poetry lovers, faith loving Christians, and people of all ages.
