Any good romance novel worth its salt will draw its readers into the story with vivid scenes, deep emotions and relatable characters. Also in a romance story the characters are usually embedded in a riveting story line that all comes together into a memorable story that will play in the reader’s mind for days after finishing that final sentence, on the last page. And it is days after I have finished Hills of Sorrow by author Danielle Lewis and I find that this romance story and its characters are still on my mind.Hills of Sorrow is one fictional romance novel that I personally found to be a pleasure to read. Although this is a love story that starts between two coming of age teenagers, the story is not riddled with gratuitous sex scenes and the characters are well developed along with the story. As a matter of fact the love story between Dakota Blackwood and Daisy Forrester is one of pure love that grows into selfless love, it is a love that is born in innocence and spans the lifetimes of both characters.
In the beginning of the story Dakota and Daisy meet as classmates on the first day of school during their High School senior year at Medicine Valley High School in Nebraska. Dakota was born and raised in Curtis, Nebraska while Daisy is a new transfer from Omaha. The story is told from Dakota’s perspective as he falls in love (at first sight) with beautiful, soft spoken Daisy. The two quickly grow into great friends spending a great deal of time with one another and become very close, although eventually they do become separated by taking on different directions with their lives, after high school graduation. Throughout the story there are signs that Dakota is wise beyond his years and the love that he feels for Daisy appears to be infinitely stronger than what she feels for him. The depths of Dakota’s love ranges from Dakota risking his life to save Daisy’s during a horse riding accident to his being faithful to their relationship during a period of separation to attend college in different states.
Sometime during their period of separation Daisy finds herself lonely and wanting companionship and while she is away acts in a way that permanently changes the loving relationship between her and Dakota. Dakota is devastated by Daisy’s actions and spends many years of his adult life pining away for Daisy so much so that he finds himself unable to move on into another loving relationship with another woman. There is a lot more to this story than sufferings of Dakota with his unrequited love for Daisy it goes deeper than that; this is an emotion packed story that aptly demonstrates some of the sadder facets of love while other parts in the story will have the reader rejoicing for love. Author Danielle Lewis has done a very nice job of portraying the story of Dakota and Daisy.
I would recommend this book as good book to read not only for fans of romance but also for fans of life.
