In the opening acknowledgement to this book, I noticed Tony Robbins was among those being thanked in the credits of author Hanieh’s inspiring workbook on relationships titled, How To Meet Your Soulmate: Guide To Meeting The One and Starting a Happy Relationship. The author follows many of the classical self-improvement and development scenarios outlined by motivational speakers, and by doing so and adding her own layers of realizations, she brings a focused workbook to those wanting to achieve their goal of building a life-long loving relationship.
In this unabashed and revealing book, highlighting the author’s methodology for achieving success in building a loving relationship, readers are brought into her own story as well as sharing some of her friend’s experiences. Hanieh certainly had her challenges, being overweight, overly enjoying video games, and having moved to a different country; without the support structures so many people have by being close-by family and longtime friends. But rather than becoming just a victim of her circumstances, she ardently moved forward with classic and time-proven techniques for achieving her self-actualization, that of a loving relationship.
The most amazing epiphany I thought while paging this book, is her taking a pregnant amount of time each day to look at herself in a mirror. She would “talk” to herself about the values of being honest, maintain and embellish her personal power, and say “I love you,” again and again, to herself. This reminded me of the Michael Jackson song, “Man in the Mirror.” These techniques are by no means original to Hanieh’s self- improvement, but along with exercising, plus placing the visualization of images of her goals on a wall, and composing video clips of happy feelings linked and edited on her computer, they all came together and formed a way for her to gain her personal strength needed to overcome her inner doubts and fears.
Hanieh takes the written posture of being a coach to her readers, and her book is liberally spaced with room for people to write in various thoughts – those of who they are and what they want in a relationship. Keeping honest to yourself is important when filling in these blanks, making this a workbook, and having the written reference is a way of holding readers accountable for their goals.
Of course, fate has much to do with finding a soulmate, as she explains, you need to go out and do things – finding true love takes a lot of work. But the work can be fun, and paging this short guide is definitely a worthwhile exercise helping those seeking someone to share their life with to find just the right person.
