Missing those loved ones who are traveling far away, or even deceased, is an emotion all children will need to cope with at various times for different reasons. Author Cassie Hoyt has created a very soft and kind illustrated children’s book titled, I Miss You Most, which brings to the minds of youngsters the many memories of fun things one enjoyed with their friends and parents. It enables children to delve into their recollections to feel joined with those not with them, and to preserve their happiness until they are reunited.
With an abundance of artfully created illustrations, along with a rhyming text captioning the storyboard’s flow, Cassie Hoyt brings to children a lesson of how best to deal with the sentiment of “missing” in a healthy and happy way. As the story progresses, many fun things are shown as happy memories such as: baking a cake; coloring with chalk on sidewalks; playing pirate on an island with treasure; swimming in a pool and diving off the board; feeding a giraffe; going on a roller coaster; and even walking on Mars – just to name a few. The book ends with the prose, “Whether you are down the street or on the opposite coast, always remember I love you and I miss you most!” This, of course, indicates life’s situations of having a parent go away on business, for example, and will return.
When a friend moves, or school ends for the summer, or family members go off to do something important and leave children home, it will inevitably cause the child to feel a new sentiment, one in which they may not understand at first. I Miss You Most helps to ease the anxiety over those circumstances and shows these wonderfully innocent young minds it is all okay to miss others.
This is an ideal book to be a part of a family library, and read often to children – especially at bedtime. Author Cassie Hoyt provides just the right elements to educate while entertain – and teach a very important lesson of emotional strength and balance. We all miss others at times, and we all need to adjust accordingly. Children will benefit most from this creative and artfully displayed book, and I believe those who read this periodically will form an inner fortitude to cope with the feeling and emotions of missing someone, as they think back on all of the fun things they experienced with that person.
